R’Frique Celebrates One Year with Collection II and the Opening of Its First Concept Store

Manhattan Avenue

Mar 17, 2026

As the platform evolves beyond rental, it cements its place as a destination for African design - bridging culture, sustainability, and modern luxury.

In a global fashion landscape increasingly defined by intention, sustainability, and cultural storytelling, R’Frique has emerged not just as a platform, but as a movement- one that is reshaping the way African fashion is seen, accessed, and celebrated. At its core, R’Frique is a luxury African fashion rental platform, offering women access to a curated selection of garments from some of the continent’s most exciting designers. Through its model, the platform allows customers to experience high-end fashion without the need for ownership - championing both accessibility and sustainability while extending the lifecycle of beautifully crafted pieces.

Now, one year after its debut, the brand marks a defining milestone with the launch of Collection II and the opening of its first concept store in Johannesburg—a bold evolution that signals not just growth, but permanence.

Founded by Ceejay Ndlovu and Lebi Barfour-Osei, R’Frique was built on a simple yet powerful premise: that African fashion deserves global visibility, reverence, and access. In just twelve months, that vision has materialised into a platform that offers women the opportunity to experience exceptional garments from across the continent - without the constraints of ownership. But R’Frique is not simply about rental. It is about reimagining luxury. Through its carefully curated model, the platform has introduced South African audiences to a new way of engaging with fashion - one rooted in circularity, where garments live beyond a single moment, and where craftsmanship is honored through repeated wear. It is a philosophy that speaks to a new generation of consumers: conscious, curious, and culturally attuned.

A pivotal moment in this journey came in September 2025, when R’Frique hosted a landmark pop-up in Johannesburg - an experience that brought together some of Africa’s most exciting designers and introduced them to a wider audience for the very first time. It was more than an event; it was a cultural intersection, a moment of discovery that set the tone for what R’Frique would become. Now, with the unveiling of Collection II, the platform expands its narrative even further. The new collection welcomes a refined roster of designers, including Loza Maleombho, Onalaja, and Asante Akua - each bringing a distinct perspective that reflects the richness and diversity of African design. Together, they form a wardrobe that is as expressive as it is intentional.

Yet perhaps the most defining moment of this anniversary is the opening of R’Frique’s first concept store. More than a retail space, it is envisioned as a destination for African fashion - an environment where fashion becomes experiential, where women can not only rent but also purchase pieces, and where discovery is woven into every interaction. HereAfrican fashion is not simply displayed; it is lived. The store represents a natural progression of R’Frique’s mission: to create a space where design, culture, and community intersect. It invites women to engage with garments on a deeper level - to understand their origins, appreciate their craftsmanship, and ultimately, to build wardrobes that reflect both personal style and cultural connection.

As Ceejay Ndlovu reflects:“To be pioneers in this space is both a privilege and a responsibility. We have a duty to honour the extraordinary designers across our continent whose work deserves to be seen, worn and celebrated globally. As we enter this next chapter with our concept store, we are excited to support women in discovering and supporting sustainable African fashion brands in a way that feels joyful, accessible and deeply connected to our culture.” And as Lebi Barfour-Osei adds:“From the beginning, R’Frique has always been about more than renting clothes; it’s about shifting how African Fashion is experienced and valued.” One year in, that shift is already underway.

With a growing community of designers, an expanding audience, and now a permanent home, R’Frique stands at the forefront of a new era - one where African luxury is not emerging, but established. Not niche, but necessary. And if the first year is any indication, this is only the beginning.
